New adventure: Exploring North America

Big news, everyone! After months of dreaming, brainstorming, and planning, we’re gearing up for an exciting new chapter: a 9 to 12-month journey through the United States and Canada with our two kids, aged 6 and 9. It’s a huge leap, but we couldn’t be more thrilled to embark on this adventure as a family.

After visiting the West Coast years ago, the United States and Canada were on our travel bucket list. From stunning national parks and vibrant cities to endless open roads, these countries offer the perfect blend of adventure, natural beauty, and culture. Traveling by RV means we’ll have the flexibility to explore at our own pace, making this a true family experience.

Instead of renting or buying an RV in North America, we’ve decided to ship our (to buy) home on wheels overseas. This way, we’ll have the comfort and familiarity of our RV while exploring new terrain. It’s a bit of a logistical challenge, but we believe it will make the journey smoother and more enjoyable in the long run.

The Plan: Step by Step

We’re currently in the process of purchasing an RV that will work for long-term travel. It’s a big decision, as this vehicle will be our home for up to a year. We’re focusing on functionality, comfort, and a layout that suits our family’s needs.

Before committing fully, we plan to take our new RV on a test holiday. This will help us identify any adjustments we need to make and ensure we’re fully prepared for life on the road. It’s also a chance to practice the logistics of RV travel as a family.

After the test holiday, we’ll reflect as a family and make the final call. If everything feels right, we’ll move forward with shipping the RV and setting a start date for our adventure.

What We’re Most Excited About

  • Family Time: Long days on the road, exploring new places, and creating memories together, like in South Africa.
  • Learning on the Go: Turning the trip into an educational experience for the kids with real-world lessons and discoveries.
  • The Great Outdoors: From the Grand Canyon to Banff, we can’t wait to immerse ourselves in the beauty of North America’s landscapes.

The Road Ahead

For now, we’re focusing on the first steps: finding the perfect RV (which we already found in October) and testing the waters with a trial trip. Stay tuned for updates as we plan, prepare, and (hopefully!) take off on this incredible journey.
